Calcite is about 4% of the Earth’s crust

Calcite is a carbonate mineral and is the most stable form of calcium carbonate.  It is one of the most common minerals on the face of the Earth, comprising about 4% by weight of the Earth's crust and is formed in many different geological environments. Pure calcium carbonate is colorless, but calcite is often colored by various impurities, including iron, magnesium, manganese, zinc or cobalt. Thus you will find calcite in a range of colors including black (extremely rare), blue, clear, green, orange, pink, red, yellow, and white.

Calcite gets its name from "chalix" the Greek word for lime.  Calcite is a common constituent of sedimentary rocks, limestone in particular, much of which is formed from the shells of dead marine organisms. It is the primary mineral in metamorphic marble, occurs as a vein mineral in deposits from hot springs, and may also be found in volcanic or mantle-derived rocks. Calcite is often the primary constituent of the shells of marine organisms, like the hard parts of red algae, some sponges, and parts of the shells of some bivalves (such as oysters).

In folklore, it is said that Calcite is considered to be a powerful energy amplifier, which aids memory, is good for arts and sciences, and brings emotional balance.

Cat's Eye displays the “milk and honey” effect

The Cat’s Eye is one of the most unique looking gemstones available and comes in many colors.  Cat's Eye describes a gemstone that displays a narrow band of concentrated light going across the width of the stone. This effect, known as chatoyancy {derived from the French for eye of the cat ("oeil de chat")}, or cat's eye effect, which is caused by inclusions of fine, slender parallel mineral fibers in the gemstone that reflect light in a single band. The cat's eye effect can also be seen in a number of other gem varieties, but only very rarely.

Chrysoberyl is best known Cat's Eye and comes in various colors. An interesting attribute that Cat’ e Eye Chrysoberyl is what is known as the “milk and honey” effect. When a light source is directed at the side of the stone, one side of the eye will be a milky color and opposite side will remain gold. When the stone is rotated, the colors switch.  The most significant Chrysoberyl deposits are in Brazil, but other important deposits are in Australia, Madagascar, Zimbabwe, Myanmar (Burma), and Russia. Additional Cat’s Eye deposits are in India China, Tanzania, Sri Lanka, and USA (Colorado).  Cat’s-eye chrysoberyl is the international gemstone of Sri Lanka ( Ceylon ).

Cats Eye Chrysoberyl gems have been treasured for many centuries, particularly in Sri Lanka ( Ceylon ), where it is believed to be a powerful protective stone.  It is believed to induce positive thoughts and help promote tolerance and harmony. In addition it is believed they bring peace of mind, clearer thinking and increased self-confidence helping one become more understanding of the fact that they have everything they already need to succeed.

BRONZITE……the “Stone of Courtesy”

Bronzite is typically a brown, coppery bronze-like color usually containing shimmery inclusions usually from the high iron content of the stone. Some veins of Bronzite are green, similar to serpentine.  The stone is a silicate compound of magnesium and iron.

Bronzite is found in the USA, Austria, England, South Africa, India, Labrador, Norway, and Greenland.

Bronzite is believed to give a sense of certainty when goal-setting and help the wearer take control of his/her decisions. It is used to encourage good behavior and help dispel restlessness.  Those that have the need to deal with people daily (i.e.  hotel managers, host/hostesses, wait-staff, etc.) will find Bronzite a useful stone in maintaining courtesy even at most difficult times. The stone inspires courtesy, courage, acceptance and assistance.
